 Custom Signage Stencils

We specialise in creating general signage stencils for:
  • outdoor equipment labelling
  • carparking restrictions, eg: "Owners Corp", "No Parking", "Keep Clear", arrows etc.
  • carparking numbers 0 - 9 (for labelling carparks and lock-up garages)
  • shipping crate consignment information
  • rubbish and recycling bins
We can also provide stencils of your business name and logo for promotional purposes, trade shows, exhibitions etc.  See "Artwork Requirements" below for information about how to send your artwork to us.

Materials used
All of our custom stencils are made from Mylar which is a 0.125mm thick transluscent polyester film which is strong and flexible and can be used multiple times.

Artwork requirements for business names & logos
We can either use one of the 3 stencil fonts (shown above) to create your stencil name or alternatively if you have a business name or logo with a specialist font you can email the artwork to us.  The artwork must be in a vector image format - you can tell whether your artwork is a vector graphic by clicking on "Wireframe" view in your artwork program.  If it is a vector image it will show up as lines however if it is a bitmap image it will not change.  Below are examples of vector and bitmap images.

Vector images are created as collections of lines rather than as patterns of individual dots or pixels.  If the graphic was created in programs such as Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW they will be vector images and will be suitable for cutting as stencils.

Bitmap images are made up of dots (pixels).  They look fine to the eye but in reality are blurry and when enlarged the design will not be exact with jagged and wobbly lines.  Images that have been scanned or are transferred from a digital camera are bitmaps and are not suitable for cutting by a stencil machine.  File formats that contain bitmap images include JPG, GIF & TIF.

Emailing your artwork
Before emailing your image to us you should save it in one of the following formats (depending on which program you used to create image).

Adobe Illustrator:
File, Save As..., Save as type: Acrobat PDF

CorelDRAW:
File, Export, Save as type: EPS (in the checkbox "Export text as" choose "Curves")
Converting to a stencil design
As most business names & logos were not originally designed as stencils there will usually be some modifications required.  Any object that contains an enclosed portion such as the letters "O" & "D" will need to have bridges inserted to prevent the middle portion from falling out - see the example of the letter "O" below.

If it is possible for the artwork to be supplied to us in a stencil format and as a vector image the cost to you will be much less.  However if this isn't possible we can still create a stencil for you, it will just take a little extra time and money to convert bitmap images to vector graphics (scanning and redrawing images) and to convert images to a stencil design (inserting bridges into words and graphics).

Stencil Master heatpen - create your own stencils!

If it is just not possible to supply us with artwork in a suitable format then we can offer an alternative option - create your own stencils using the Stencil Master heatpen.  First draw your stencil design onto a piece of paper and then place your transluscent stencil film over the image.  As you lightly trace over the image the fine cutting tip of the heatpen willl melt the stencil film.  The tool works purely by heat and not pressure which means that there are no ragged edges or tired fingers after trying to control a sharp knife.  Make sure you put a piece of glass underneath the paper to protect your table.

Stencil Master kit includes:
  • Stencil Master heatpen
  • 3 different cutting tips
  • 1 piece of stencil film on which to practice*
  • stand
  • instructions
* stencil film (Mylar) is available from Stencil Gallery as A4 sheets ($6) or as a strip 61cm wide ($10 per 30cm).  If ordering more than 1 x 30cm the Mylar will be left in one piece.
